Pyramids of Giza and its mystery
-- Nirajan Gautam
The oldest and most consistent wonder of the world are they pyramids of Giza. They were constructed for the 4th generation pharaoh of Egypt as a temple for him. They are popular for their humongous size and unique attributes to preserve stuff and extremely complicated internal geometry. It is assumed that a 20 year period was utilized to construct the pyramids of Giza. The actual height of the pyramids was 146.5 meters tall and with the time it reduced to 138.8 meters due to soil erosion. The base was square and length of each base was 230.4 meters long. The mass of the Giza pyramids was 5.9 million tonnes. The volume of the pyramids is calculated around 2,500,000 meter cube including an internal hillock. As the time span considered for its construction is 20 years therefore 800 tonnes of stone was installed every day. The number of blocks required for pyramid construction was 2.3 million blocks (Evans, 1979).Material used in construction of the pyramids were limestone blocks, its quantity is calculated to be 2.3 million blocks, granite stones which are found on the king’s chamber weigh 25 to 80 tonnes. The stones were found beyond an area of 500 miles away and it was transported through boats through River Nile. The pyramid now has a visitor entrance which is constructed by the government of Egypt to promote tourism. However, the original entrance was 17 meters above the ground and 7.29 meters eastwards from the centre line of the pyramid. The entrance was 1.04 meters wide and 96 meters higher which leaned into the bedrock area of the pyramid. The interior of the pyramid consisted of the queen’s chamber and the king’s chamber. Both the chambers were separately located and the king and queen were buried in there with some preserved food and valuables.
The two mysteries surrounding the construction of the pyramids is their fine construction which has almost negligible errors in terms of geometry and the laborious work with which the labor moved those humongous stones for constant years to such an immense height. The unique part of the pyramids is that even today with such advance equipment the construction can possess errors and the work time will also be same, but how the pharaohs of those times managed this architectural; wonder of the world. The first mystery about the construction and moving of those tonnes of weights of stones from one side of the Nile to other side are answered by geologists predicting that the pharaoh had slaved labors who were divided into two teams of 100,000 men. However, this is not a reasonable justification because the size of stones which was moved can fail the best equipment if this time as well.
The best part of the Giza pyramids is its perfect symmetry. Not a single error is hunted from this enormous construction. When except geologists and archaeologists other scientists intervened to search the mystery if the Giza pyramids it was identified that ancient Egyptians had perfect command upon astronomy and trigonometry. They used astronomy to locate the pyramids in no gravity area due to which it was possible to move such large stones and they constructed pyramids upon the structure of three stars which provided perfect geometry of the construction. Other than that this no point of gravity is the dividing centers of the earth as well (McNeese, 1997).
